Udupi: Media establishments  tending towards commercialization – KSWJA President N Raju

Udupi: “Media establishments are tending towards commercialization, having profit oriented objectives rather than social oriented, affecting the journalists at large,” said N Raju, President of Karnataka State Working Journalists Association. He was speaking after inaugurating the Journalism Day organised by Udupi District Working Journalist Association at Lions Bhavan Udupi here, on July 3.

“Journalists face the risk of unemployment as media establishments are tending towards contract based recruitment. The social objective of media functioning is at risk,” he added.

Another eminent journalist, Madan Gowda said that the journalists serving in the 90’s were poor and determined to serve the society. “But today, the scenario has changed,” he added.

N Raju and Foreign Secretary of Indian Journalist’s Union Madan Gowda were felicitated by Udupi District Working Journalist Association on the occasion.

Senior journalist B B Shettigar and Mohammed Sharief were felicitated. The children of journalists, Sanvi, Archana, Adithya Prasad Pandelu and Dheeraj, were felicitated. A scholarship was also extended to Sandhya Gopal Shetty for her journalism studies.

Jaykar Suvarna, President of Udupi District Working Journalist Association, presided over the programme.

Rohini, District Information Officer, Chethan Padubidri and others were present.

General Secretary Udupi District Working Journalist Association Ganesh Prasad Pandelu welcomed the gathering. Treasurer Rajesh Shetty delivered the vote of thanks. Rahim Ujire compered the programme.
