Udupi: Peacock Dies of Lightning Hit when Dancing with Fully-fanned Train

Udupi: Although it was destined by fate, the incident might have been symbolic of declining wildlife and proof to how the encroachment of forests has resulted in birds and animals entering the human habitat in search of food.

As some workers were engaged in the paddy field work at Herga near Manipal on Monday afternoon, they had a heavenly glimpse of a peacock spreading its train of feathers in full display. Just when they were enjoying the sight, something unexpected and horrible happened.

A bolt from the blue – a streak of lightning – hit a nearby tree and it took the life of the national bird. The hit was so severe that the earth developed a crack at that point.

Luckily at least, there was no harm to the humans. The forest personnel were informed.
