Udupi: K Gopal Poojary, president of the district unit of Congress party, has announced his resignation to the post.

His party has conceded many seats it earlier held in both ZP and TP polls. Out of the 26 seats in ZP, it has won only 6 seats. In Karkala, all the five seats have been bagged by the BJP. In Kundapur taluk,

Deeply disappointed by his party’s performance, Poojary has owned total responsibility for it and has decided to quit the post.

He was expected to submit his resignation in the presence of all members in the party office on Wednesday.

Many partymen have felt that expulsion of Jayaprakash Hegde proved suicidal to the party.

On the other hand, the BJP had an advantage since the supporters of independent MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty had pledged their support to the BJP, which contributed positively to the party’s success.
