Udupi: A day started with yoga is full of enthusiasm and pleasure, said Vinay Kumar Sorake, Minister for Urban Development and Minister-in-charge District. He was speaking after inaugurating the International Yoga Day organized in Ajjarkad Indoor Stadium here, on June 21.
“Yoga is essential for maintaining good health and sound mind. Dr Veerendra Heggade had sent a trainer to the Legislative Assembly to train 224 MLA’s about yoga. The district has witnessed a mega event where students from different schools performed yoga at the MGM ground,” he added.
Shobha Karandlaje, MP Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency said that India has been a model to other countries with its rich treasures like yoga. “Yoga is now celebrated internationally and people from 174 nations are following it. Today, Yoga has reached every corner of the world which makes India proud. Yoga increases concentration and leads us to excel in life and career,” she added.
Dr. Roshan Shetty, Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Udupi compered the programme. Dr Alakananda, District Ayush Officer, welcomed the gathering.
Dr Jyothsna, Yoga Lecturer, Muniyal Ayurveda and others were present. The students from Dr G Shanker First Grade College, Ajjarkad participated in the International Yoga Day.
Bharatiya Janatha Party celebrates International Yoga Day
The Bharatiya Janatha Party celebrated International Yoga Day at Hotel Kediyoor. Shobha Karandlaje, MP Udupi- Chikkmangluru constituency inaugurated the programme.
Shobha Karandlaje said that PM Narendra Modi has served the purpose of becoming a Prime Minister of India by giving a call to all citizens to celebrate International Yoga Day. “The pride of India, Yoga, has gained importance all over the world which brings great satisfaction for us,” she added.
District BJP President Tingale Vikramarjun Hegde, former Udupi MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Suresh Nayak, Suresh Shetty Gurme, Shyamala Kunder and others were present.
