Udupi: Violet Pereira among 70 women to be honored during Konkani Mahila Sahitya-Samskriti Sammelan

Udupi: A state-level Karnataka Konkani Mahila Sahitya-Samskriti Sammelan will be held at the Muddanna Mantapa of MGM College on November 28 and 29, said Dr. Sandhya S Pai, the president of the organising committee.

Minister for Kannada Culture and Women’s Child Welfare, Umashree will inaugurate the Sammelan. Film actess Aishwarya Naga and Neetu will take part as chief guests. Writer and Academy award winner Padma Shenoy has been chosen as the president of the Sammelan. Nearly 5,000 Konkani-speaking people are expected to participate in the event.

The Sammelan will be held under the leadership of the former president of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Kasaragod Chinna. Konkani literary seminars and plays will be held during the sammelan.

An exhibition of Konkani books and photographs would be held. Konkani communities have a rich and varied cuisine, which will be on display at stall during the event. Several Konkani communities will present cultural programmes. The sammelan will also focus on the development of the literary and cultural aspects of Konkani communities. A colourful procession with cultural troupes participating in it would be held from Rajangana to MGM College. Shree Vidyavallbahatheertha Swamiji of Paryaya Kaniyoor Math would inaugurate the procession.

70 women from 30 communities speaking different dialects of Konkani would be felicitated. They are: Violet Pereira (Proprietor and Editor-in-chief of Mangalorean.com), Jayashree Shanubag Mysuru, Shalini Pandith Mangaluru, Hundi Prabha Kamath, Vidya Kamath, Veena Shrinivas, Dr Vijayalaxmi Nayak, Shreelatha Prabhu, Geetha Saamath, Amritha Bhat, Shaila Fernandes, Geetha C Kini, Sheela Nayak, Sandhya Shenoy, Joythiprabha S Rao, Malathi Kamath, Geetha Wagle, Dr Meera kamath, Shashikala Manjunath Prabhu, Shwetha Sudha Pai, Maroli Sabhitha Kamath, Shakunthala R Kini, Poornima Suresh, Malini Malya, Deepali Kambadakone, Vimala Kamath, Prafulla Hegde, Mohini Bhat, Chethana Shenoy, Vidya Shaymsundar, Kusuma Nayak, Preethi Bhandarkar, Basthi Kavitha Shenoy, Sharadhi Pateel, Asha Nayak, Arathi Prabhu, Shanthi Bhai, Prashanthi Nayak, K Sharada Bhat, Sandhya Kurdekar, Leena Roach, Dr Nirmala N Kumar, Gowri Mallya, Nirmala Kamath, Vinaya Raykar, Sunada Shet, Joyth Murur, Smitha Shenoy, Vibha Srinivasa Nayak, Catherine Rodrigues, Sumathi Shenoy, Sulatha Kamath, Shrinidhi Shet, Sri Raksha Nayak, Prathibaha Kharvi, Niyathi Kharvi, Prabha Nayak, Shaila Kamath, Mithra Bhandarkar, Dr Sulatha Bhandary, Shruthi D Nayak, S Jayashree Shenoy and Meera Rathnakar Kharvi.
