Udupi: Young Woman’s WhatsApp Photo Lifted and Fake Facebook Profile Opened

Udupi: Awareness is being created regarding the hazards of posting personal pictures, esp., by young women since they are being misused.

Yet the indiscretion and abuse continue. Miscreants take advantage of the anonymity and also because of the laborious process involved in tracking down the culprits.

Chaitra (name changed), a resident of Patla school locality in Marne, has filed a complaint to the police in Byndoor regarding a case of misuse of the Internet.

She has stated that she had opened a WhatsApp account through her Idea SIM card and posted a profile photo. The photo was downloaded by some miscreant and a Facebook account was opened in her name.

It was only after she was told by others that she came to know about the fake account. She has also been getting calls from unknown persons, she has stated.
