UP Police gets 1,056 new four-wheel vehicles

Lucknow, June 30 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday flagged off 1,056 new four-wheeled vehicles to be used to improve policing under the ‘Dial 100’ scheme.

With these vehicles procured at a cost of Rs.54 crore, there would be two new vehicles each at 1,000 police stations in the state.

Speaking on the occasion, Akhilesh Yadav said that this was for the first time that such a large number of vehicles were being provided in one go to the police force by any state government and he hoped that with this augmentation of the police fleet, the sense of security among the people of the state would be enhanced.

He expressed hope that after establishment of the Dial 100 centralized system, the police will be able to reach the crime scene in 15-20 minutes, on lines of ‘102’ and ‘108’ ambulances being run under the National Ambulance Service and Samajwadi Swasthya Sewa.
