We will try to convince Janardhan Poojary on Yettinahole – T B Jayachandra

Udupi: “We will try to convince Janardhan Poojary on Yettinahole project,” said Minister for Higher Education, Law and Animal Husbandry, T B Jayachandra. He was speaking to the mediapersons during his visit to the proposed land for the establishment of Science Research Centre of Mangalore University in Belapu here, on April 15.

When asked on why Janardhan Poojary was not convinced on Yettinahole project, T B Jayachandra said that he is a senior leader and they will try to convince him. The judgment has come in favor of the project. The case was filed in the Nation Green Tribunal.

“We are only tapping water for Yettinahole project, it will not harm the Western Ghats, and we will try to convince the people. The water will be drawn only for 3-4 months. We have consulted the experts,” he added.

The science research centre has high potential and good future. The government of Karnataka will provide necessary financial assistance for the project. The cost of the project is around Rs 140 crore, a grant of Rs 50 crore will be released this year. The research centre will facilitate research on Western Ghats and other prominent areas. The research centre work will take 2 years to complete.

22 family courts are announced in the budget, the proposal is pending in the finance department, and an additional family court will be setup in Udupi.

When asked on the irregularities alleged by the students in the examination process of Mangalore University, Jayachandra said, “Rs 100 crore is reserved for the Information Communication Technology (ICT) and it will be a solution for the technical errors during the examinations. Technology will be effectively utilized in higher and primary education system. We used to outsource technical related work to the agencies as we have not adopted the ICT. The ICT will ensure transparency and will be adopted in 2-3 months. Vice-Chancellor Byrappa added that the time frame was 23 days while it demanded 90 days for uploading of the data, while the issues are being rectified,” he added.

Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Minister for Urban Development and Minister in-charge District and others were present.
