Why is MP Shobha Karandlaje mum on Kavya’s death – Amrith Shenoy

Udupi: “In any part of Karnataka, if any Hindu leader would have died, the MP of Udupi – Chikkamagaluru, Shobha Karandlaje would have got down to the streets but she maintained silence in Kavya’s suspicious death which needs to be questioned”, said the Senate member of Mangaluru University Amrith Shenoy during a protest staged by the NSUI Udupi Unit at the Clock Tower here on August 11.

Addressing the protesters Amrith Shenoy said, “The BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje has the habit of blaming the State government whenever there is murder of the Hindu leaders, but she is mum over Kavya’s death. She should have reacted on this major issue. Being a woman, Shobha did not react nor has she consoled Kavya’s family which is condemnable”.

Amrith Shenoy further said, “We demand justice for Kavya and our protest is not intended to tarnish the image of any institution. Kavya was a National-level Badminton player and she has brought laurels to Dakshina Kannada district. The parents of Kavya and students organisations have raised many questions on Kavya’s death. Few years ago, Soujayna, a student of Ujire was raped and murdered. After severe protests, the state government was forced to hand over the case to the CBI. Soujanya’s parents still feel that they have been deprived of justice”.

Amirth also said, “Such incidents in prestigious institutions known for quality education certainly expose the loopholes in the safety of the students. We demand a thorough investigation in Kavya’s death. All educational institutions should take measures to ensure safety of the students and such incidents of suicide should not occur in the district”.

NSUI district president Christen D’Almeida, students leaders Mars Sequeira, Prajwal Kundar, Calvin D’Silva, Princely, Karthik K, Janardhan Bhandarkar and others were present.
