Will continue welfare steps, Arunachal CM tells governor

Itanagar, Feb 20 (IANS) Newly sworn-in Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul on Saturday promised Governor J.P. Rajkhowa that he will carry forward all the welfare initiatives taken by the governor during President’s Rule.

Pul, who called on Rajkhowa, also assured that all measures will be taken to maintain peace and communal harmony in the state.

“Any kind of violence, disorders and disturbances will not be tolerated. In case of any law and order situation, it will be dealt firmly and as per law,” the chief minster told the governor.

“No third degree measures should be adopted but the offenders must be brought to book, while at the same time the administrative and police officers on duty will be protected for any bonafide action taken in the public interest,” said Pul.

The chief minister thanked the governor for the proactive and people-centric actions during President’s Rule from January 26 to February 19.

Stating that there will be zero tolerance for corruption, Pul told the governor that a vigilance apparatus will be set up in the state secretariat, departments, districts and sub-divisions. Action will be initiated against corrupt officials.

Pul said the main focus of his government will be on road communication, health, education, power, public health engineering, security and other service sectors.

Rajkhowa said he reposed his faith in the new chief minister and that he will do all that is required to safeguard the interests of the common man.
