Window cleaners survive 10-storey fall in Sydney

Sydney, Oct 20 (IANS) Two window cleaners on Tuesday fell more than 10 storeys down the side of a building in Australia’s Sydney city after the cable on the cage snapped.

Miraculously, both men survived though they were injured and hospitalised in serious condition.

The men were in a metal window-cleaning cage positioned at the top of the building on the intersection of Pitt Street and Bridge Street, when the cable snapped, ABC reported.

“We all looked out the window, the cable had snapped and we saw the whole scaffold with two guys plunge straight down… we heard the thump,” an eyewitness who works across the road, said.

He said one man crashed onto an awning and the cage landed on top of him, while the other man was left dangling by his harness.

One man, in his mid 20s, was treated for back and internal injuries and the other man, in his 50s, was treated for lower leg injuries.

Both men have been taken to St.Vincent’s Hospital in serious condition.
