Women in the State are insecure – Bharati Shetty

Udupi: President of the state women wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Bharati Shetty alleged that the Siddaramaiah led Congress government had failed to control the law and order situation in the state.

She was speaking at a press meet held at the BJP office on Saturday, January 14, she termed the recent incidents of molestation in Bengaluru, as a failure of the law and order situation under the Congress government. Crimes against women have increased in the state, especially after the Congress-led government came to power. Women are being subjected to sexual assault, molestation, murder, dacoity and also extortion. People of State are feeling insecure as the number of crimes has increased. The Bengaluru incident shows that the Congress does not have any concern for the security of women.

The State government is neglecting the Bagyalakshmi bond scheme, which is providing financial security to girl children. The Scheme was introduced by former Chief Minister Yeddyurappa. During the BJP government, maximum families have benefited from the scheme, she added.

A survey report of the women’s hostels across the state conducted by the BJP Mahila Morcha has been submitted to the social welfare minister H Anjaneya in Bengaluru recently. The survey report has revealed that most of the hostellers stay without proper security and basic amenities. The survey covered 740 hostels run by the state government for Other Backward Classes and SC/ST women students. As many as 317 hostels did not have hot water facilities while 418 hostels did not have cots. Besides, there is lack of proper security in the hostels – 286 hostels did not have a watchman.

About 83 percent of the hostels had no CCTV cameras and thereby posing threat to the security of girl students. Installation of cameras is the immediate requirement that government has to take care of, she added.

District BJP Mahila Morcha president Nayana Ganesh, State BJP leader Shyamala Kunder, district secretary Veena Shetty, ZP vice-president Sheela K Shetty, CMC Councillor Rashmitha Balakrishna, ZP member Gitanjali Suvarna were present in the press meet.
