Work progresses at Rio 2016 venues

Rio De janeiro, Oct 20 (IANS) At least 12 of 16 venues at Rio’s two largest Olympic sports precincts are more than 90 percent complete, organisers said.

Barra Olympic Park – the biggest event cluster – is 92 percent ready, up from 89 percent last month, Xinhua news agency on Tuesday reported citing Rio2016.com.

The most advanced venues at Barra are Carioca 3 Arena and the International Broadcast Centre (both 97 percent). The least advance is the velodrome, where work has reached 70 percent.

Two venues at Deodoro Park – the mountain bike and BMX courses – are already finished.

Meanwhile, Whitewater Stadium is 98 percent complete and Youth Arena 68 percent finished. Deodoro is the second-largest venue complex.

Work on the Olympic and Paralympic village is 97 percent complete while the golf course is 98 percent ready.
