Yettinahole Project, ACSA to hold Rasta Roko on October 6

Mangaluru: “The All College Students Association will hold ‘Rasta Roko’ on October 6, against the state government for its careless attitude towards the Yettinahole project”, said the state president of ACSA Dinakar Shetty in a press meet held at the Arya Samaj Mandir, Balmatta Road here on October 1.

Addressing the mediapersons Dinakar Shetty said that the ACSA has held many protests in connection with the Yettinahole project but no action has been taken by the government to drop it. Oscar Fernandes had assured us of calling a meeting with the Chief minister, but it is almost one year now. Last year the meeting was fixed and because of the Dasara, it was cancelled. In between the people of Dakshina Kannada held several protests but the government has not taken any initiative to call for a meeting in this regard. Religious heads have also requested the government to stop the project but the government has not considered their request. We have been deeply hurt by the attitude of the CM”, he said.

Dinakar also said, “Former CM Yeddyurappa had also assured to do justice in the Yettinahole project but he too did not fulfil his assurances. Oscar Fernandes had promised to call for a meeting with the CM. We trusted both Yeddyurappa and Oscar Fernandes but they did not do anything positive in this regard. We have requested the people of DK not to invite D V Sadananda Gowda and Veerappa Moily to any of the progammes in Mangaluru because they are the one who had initiated the Yettinahole project. In the coming days, we will stage a protest in front of Oscar Fernandes House”.

Dinakar also said, “We have heard that the CM is coming to Mangaluru, but we did not know the date. On October 6, we have decided to hold a ‘Rasta Roko’ protest near the Besant college to bring the Yettinahole project to the attention of the CM. We had also in mind of protesting at the Netravati river but due to the rains we have postponed the programme. In the coming days, we will protest getting down into the Netravati river”.

When asked about the CM’s programme on October 3, and the ‘Rasta Roko’ being held on October 6, Dinakar said, “We did not know the exact date of the CM’s programme. In the coming days, we will surely hold protests against the CM. Last time when we protested in front of the Mangaluru University, we were arrested. For holding the ‘Rasta Roko’, we had gone to the police for permission but were denied. We will anyway protest holding ‘Rasta Roko’ on that day”.

Deekshith Shetty, Sachin Shetty, Dhanush Shetty, Suhas Shetty, Shifal Raj, Ashwith Kottari, Ankitha, Archana, Vivek, Shailesh Kottary, Jeethraj, Nadeem and others were also present.
