Youth Fiesta 2016 – Youth Orientation by ICYM City Deanery

Mangaluru: It was a festival of friendship indeed as the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) City deanery organized a one-day youth orientation and get together programme at the Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail here on August 7.

City Deanery youths from the parishes of Bondel, Bajal, Bajjodi, Derebail, Cordel, Fermai, Kelerai, Paldane and Shaktinagar were present. Over 150 youth of these parishes attended this programme.

The programme began with the prayer song as an invocation of God’s blessings. The chief guest of the programme was Fr Gratian Alvares, the residential priest of Derebail Parish, along with Fr Paul Prakash D’Souza, the director of ICYM City Deanery. Vernon Crasta Cordel, the president of the ICYM City Deanery welcomed the gathering. Fr Gratian Alvares, inaugurated the programme and on the occasion extended good wishes and his blessings on the programme. The director gave a short insight in his speech about the day’s activities.

Sheldon Alvares Derebail delivered the vote of thanks. The programme followed with a talk and debate session on the topic, “Youth in a parish” by Eugene D’Cunha who was the resource person of the day. A short ice breaker by Rohan Vamanjoor was held after the session. Then the programme followed with a Holy Mass at the church of the Most Holy Redeemer. The celebrant was the director, Fr Paul Prakash D’Souza. The programme then followed with lunch being served to all present.

The afternoon session was full of dance, songs, games and a whole lot of fun. Valentine Crasta Cordel and Rohan Vamanjoor along with Jaison D’Souza Bajal organized the afternoon session. The ICYM Mangalore Diocese council of 2016-2017 under the leadership of Jackson Eric D’Costa Vamadapadavu extended the late afternoon sessions with more games. Fr Victor Vijay Machado, the dean of City Deanery and parish priest of Holy Cross Church, Cordel, Fr Ronald Prakash D’Souza, the director of ICYM Mangalore Diocese visited and extended their good wishes to the youth. A short valedictory programme was held after the games.

The president of the valedictory and chief guests were Fr Gratian Alvares and Fr Austin Peter Peres, the parish priest of Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail. The winners were distributed with the prizes by the chief guest. The unique friendship day by tying friendship ribbons to a new friend was conducted, making a new friend on this day. The Vice President, Benjohn D’Souza Kelerai celebrated his birthday on this very day by cutting the cake as well as with all the others celebrating their birthday on the month of August. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Sheldon Alvares Derebail, the secretary of ICYM City Deanery. The programme concluded with a Mangalorean Baila.
