11 Percent increase in Voters in DK, Election Code of Conduct in force

Mangaluru: “The dates for the elections and the counting of polls have been announced by the Election commission and all measures have been taken for the forthcoming Assembly elections. In Dakshina Kannada 16,67,194 voters have been registered out of which 8,46,030 are women and 8,21,123 men. In 2013, there were 15,01,024 voters and this year there is an increase of 11%”, said the Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil in a press meet held at the DC office here on March 27.

Addressing the mediapersons DC Sasikanth said, “In the last elections we had 1766 polling stations and this year we have identified 1858 polling stations due to the increase in voters. The district administration has completed the first phase of the election process successfully. In the 1858 booths 2787 Ballot Units, 27 control units and 2450 VVPAT machines will be used for the forthcoming Assembly elections”.

Sashikanth further said, “VVPAT machines will be used in all the polling stations to enhance transparency and credibility of the elections. VVPAT paper slips will be used for the verification of the results obtained from the Control Unit. If there are any mistakes or if the voters have any doubts, they should bring it to the notice of the election officer immediately. All Women Managed Polling Stations will also be set up in each assembly constituency.”

DC Senthil also said, “The Election Code of Conduct comes into force from March 27 and all the advertisement banners erected in the government property should be vacated in 24 hours and in the public places within 48 hours. All illegal banners should also be vacated with four days”.

“We have identified Mangaluru North and Bantwal constituencies as very sensitive. All arrangements have been made for the specially-abled to cast their votes. A control room has been opened and the number is 1800 4252099 or 0824 2420002“, said Senthil.
