15th National SCIENCIA – AHSCON Convenes at Father Muller, Emphasizing Competence and Collaboration

15th National SCIENCIA – AHSCON Convenes at Father Muller, Emphasizing Competence and Collaboration

Mangaluru: The 15th edition of SCIENCIA – AHSCON 2026, the Annual National Conference of Medical Laboratory Technology, was inaugurated on 27 March 2026 at Father Muller Charitable Institutions, marking a significant milestone in its journey of academic excellence and professional collaboration. With participation from over 700 delegates comprising students, faculty, and professionals, the conference stood as a testament to the growing prominence of allied health sciences.

The Chief Guest, Dr. K. S. Gangadhara Somayaji, Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be) University, emphasized the importance of competence and critical thinking in his inaugural address to the students. He insightfully remarked that “Artificial Intelligence is artificial, but stupidity is natural,” underscoring the need for human presence of mind and sound judgment in the face of rapid technological advancements. He encouraged delegates to remain true learners, stating that the strength of such a large gathering reflects the promise of a successful and enriching conference.

The Guest of Honour, Prof. U. T. Ifthikar Fareed, Chairman, Karnataka Allied Health & Healthcare Council, called upon the delegates to remain vigilant and committed seekers of knowledge in their respective fields. He highlighted that continuous learning strengthens the profession and enhances its global recognition. He also lauded the establishment and recognition of the Allied Health Council, noting its role in expanding career opportunities worldwide for allied health professionals.

Prof. Rajesh Shenoy, President KAHPA (Karnataka Allied & Healthcare Professionals Association), expressed his delight at the overwhelming participation and emphasized the importance of unity among allied health disciplines. He advocated for adopting the term “Medical Laboratory Sciences” instead of “Medical Laboratory Technology,” aligning it with globally recognized nomenclature and enhancing professional stature.

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), warmly welcomed the delegates and commended the organizers for their efforts. He highlighted the indispensable role of laboratory technicians in clinical diagnosis, noting that accurate laboratory reports form the backbone of effective treatment. He stressed that healthcare today is a collective effort, with allied health professionals playing a crucial role. He urged technicians to remain vigilant, dedicated, and continually update their knowledge, recognizing their contribution to saving lives.

The conference souvenir was formally released during the inauguration, followed by the Director’s presentation of tokens of appreciation to the distinguished guests.

Dr. Shivashankar A. R., Principal FMCOAHS, delivered the welcome address, reflecting on the journey of the conference from its inception to its 15th edition. He acknowledged the organizing team’s tireless efforts and expressed pride in witnessing the conference’s steady growth and impact over the years.

Mrs. Sharon Raju, Organizing Secretary and Course Coordinator of Medical Laboratory Technology FMCOAHS, introduced the dignitaries by presenting their biosketches. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Omkareshwar Patil, Organizing Secretary of the conference. The inaugural ceremony was gracefully compered by Ms. Claudia Jonny, Assistant Professor of Medical Laboratory Technology.
