2016 South Asian Games’ logo & mascot unveiling on Sunday

Guwahati, Dec 12 (IANS) The logo and the mascot of the 12th South Asian Games will be unveiled here on Sunday in the presence of Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, it was announced on Saturday.

Guwahati and Shillong would jointly host the Games from February 6-16, 2016. Kolhapur’s Ananand Khasbardar and Abhijeet Krishna of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Patna won the mascot and logo designing contests, respectively. The logo and the mascot of the Games were selected from around 450 entries each, according to the sports ministry.

About 4500 sport persons and officials from eight countries are expected to participate in 23 events in the Games.

At the launch ceremony the SAG’s organising committee would also kick-off its volunteers programme which is open to the general public.

After the unveiling ceremony, the mascot of the Games would travel around the city with the bikers from the Assam Bikers Group.
