1st Hanging Bridge Connecting 2 Taluks Launched

Mangaluru: The first hanging bridge connecting two taluks in Dakshina Kannada district was inaugurated by District in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai on Aug 11 at Muttur near Ganjimath. The rare handing bridge developed in association with the coastal development authority connects Mangaluru North Taluk on one side and Badagabellur Panchayath of Bantwal taluk on the other.

Badagabellur villagers will be greatly benefited from the new bridge as the distance to the district headquarters will be reduced. Hanging bridge expert, Girish the “bridge Man” from Sullia is behind the design and development of the new bridge across river Phalguni. Girish has executed many such projects in the past-this is the 126th hanging bridge that Girish whom is 67 years old, a mechanical engineer with a passion for building bridges has constructed, and the 99th such engineering feat in Karnataka.

The bridge has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1.47 crore, with the Coastal Development Authority pitching in with Rs 1.40 crore, and the rest of Rs 3.50 lakh each contributed by Ramanath Rai and Moideen Bawa. Coastal development authority president Nivedith Alva, MLA Moideen Bava,ZP President Meenakshi Shanthigodu, Muttur GP president Jayanthi, Badagabellur GP president Nagamma were present on the occasion.
