2 youths killed as pickup van hits motorcycle in Lakhisarai; 1 dead, 7 injured as SUV rams into group in Patna

Patna: Two young men were killed after a speeding pickup van rammed their motorcycle on NH-80 near Adupura under the Suryagarha police station area in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district early on Monday morning. In another incident, one person was killed and seven people were injured as a SUV hit a group of people in Patna.

The accident occurred around 4 a.m. when the victims were travelling towards their eatery in Rampur village.

The impact of the collision was so severe that both men were thrown off the motorcycle and died on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Ashok Kumar, 17, son of Rupesh Singh and a resident of Akbarpur village under the Samho police station area in Begusarai district, and Rajan Kumar, 20, son of Ravindra Singh alias Madhu, a resident of Jagdishpur village in Suryagarha.

Rajan was the nephew of Baleshwar Singh, deputy chairperson of the Suryagarha Municipal Council.

According to preliminary information, the two were travelling from Suryagarha towards their eatery near the Shri Govind Baba Fuel Centre in Rampur village when a speeding pickup van approaching from behind hit their motorcycle near Adupura.

On receiving information about the accident, a police team from Suryagarha police station reached the spot and took custody of the bodies.

The bodies were subsequently sent to Sadar Hospital in Lakhisarai for post-mortem examinations.

The incident has left the victims’ families devastated. Police are examining the circumstances of the collision and taking further legal action.

In a separate incident, a fatal accident on Atal Path in Patna early Monday morning left at least one person dead and several others injured after a speeding Scorpio allegedly ploughed into a group of people.

The accident occurred around 3 a.m. under the jurisdiction of Patliputra police station.

According to preliminary reports, the vehicle struck people over a stretch of approximately 200 metres before overturning.

Most of the injured were reportedly around 15-years-old and were on their way to a fair.

Eyewitnesses said the Scorpio was travelling at a high speed before the driver lost control.

Reports also claimed that the vehicle travelled a considerable distance after striking the victims before overturning.

The injured were rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment. Those identified among the injured include Ranveer Kumar, Mohit Kumar, Deepak, Piyush and Amarjit.

There were conflicting initial reports regarding the number of injured.

Bihar minister Ram Kripal Yadav said seven people had been injured and confirmed that the accident had also resulted in a death.

The minister said police were searching for those who allegedly fled the scene and assured that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible.

There were also allegations that the Scorpio belonged to a leader of a political party.

However, the vehicle’s ownership and the circumstances surrounding the accident require official verification.

Police are investigating the Patna accident, including the circumstances in which the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and whether anyone attempted to flee the scene.

Both incidents have once again drawn attention to the dangers posed by speeding vehicles on Bihar’s roads.

Further details are awaited as the respective investigations progress.
