2nd PU student kills classmate over affair

Bengaluru: A 19-year-old second PU student stabbed his classmate on his neck in their college toilet killing him on the spot on Wednesday morning. The trigger for the murder was a fight over a girl whom both the boys loved.

The deceased Dayasagar S D (18) was a second PU student of Soundarya Composite PU college in Nagasandra in North Bengaluru. He was a resident of Manjunathangar near Bagalagunte, and his father was a school bus driver in the same institution. The suspect Rakshith P is a PU commerce student and a resident of Chikkasandra, the police said.

According to the police, the incident happened between 8 and 8.15 am in the boys’ toilet when the college had just begun. The police have also detained a 17-year-old minor student who called the victim to the toilet where Rakshith was waiting with a knife he had brought from home, the police added.

“He (minor) has admitted that he knew a quarrel would happen but did not presume it would result in murder. But that is enough to prove his involvement,” a senior police officer said.

As Dayasagar entered the toilet, Rakshith stabbed him on his neck. Dayasagar died instantly of profuse bleeding. A few students rushed to the toilet to see what the commotion was and informed the college authorities who in turn called the police.

Dayasagar was declared brought dead at a private hospital and the police arrested Rakshith from the college. The police also seized the murder weapon from the spot. The police suspect that Rakshith was in love with a girl from his college and Dayasagar too was getting close to her, leading to frequent quarrels between the boys, said Chetan Singh Rathor, DCP North Division.

The victim’s body was shifted to a government hospital for postmortem. The Bagalagunte police have registered a case of murder. They produced Rakshith before a magistrate, who remanded him in judicial custody. The minor was sent to a remand home.

Students shocked

While the crime unfolded, the laboratory examinations for science students had just commenced. As soon as the news broke out on television channels, parents rushed to the college asking the authorities to call off the exams and declare a holiday. However, the police reasoned with the parents saying the students were not unaware of the incident and that they should finish their exams. Students who walked out of laboratory and classrooms were shocked to learn about the incident after seeing the police jeeps and media crew on their campus. While the college later declared a holiday, their school from Class 1 to 10 on the same campus, continued to function.

Victim had IAS dreams

Dayasagar’s mother Mary was inconsolable and said her son dreamt of becoming an IAS officer or join the Indian Army but became a victim of Rakshith’s anger. They are natives of Korategere in Tumakuru district and migrated to the city to ensure a good education for Dayasagar. His father, Devaraj, who is a school bus driver at the same institution, had just entered the gates after picking up school children from Abbigere and noticed that college staff were attending to his son. He stopped the bus and rushed to the spot to shift him to a hospital in a car. He did not realise that the wound was so deep that it could be fatal.
