4 Arrested in Puttur Shootout Case, Search on for Kali Yogish

Mangaluru: The Puttur city police arrested four persons in connection with the shootout case at Rajadhani Jewellers on 6 October, 2015 and recovered an Alto car, a Pulsar bike, and two revolvers from their possession, said SP Bhushan in a press meet held at his office here, on June 21.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Haneef alias Munna, Kalia Rafiq, Asir alias Abdul Asir and Mohammed Anwar alias Annu.

According to the police, on October 6, the accused targeted Rajadhani Jewellers and shots were fired thrice. The bullets hit the shutter, glass and the walls of the shop. The police along a forensic team and fingerprint experts rushed to the spot. During the investigations, they recovered empty cartridge and pellets. A special team was also formed to investigate this case.

On April 1, the main accused Abdul Asir was arrested by the Puttur Town police inspector and a revolver was recovered from him. During interrogation, he revealed the mastermind in this case as one Kali Yogish along with his aides Rafiq and Mohammed Haneef alias Munna, who had executed the act to extort money. The crime was planned in the jail and Khalia Rafiq and Mohammed Haneef along with Abdul Ashir, Faiya alias Fayaz, Anwar and Ramiz Raja committed the crime. Abdul Ashir and Anwar were arrested and are currently under judicial custody. After the crime, Khalia Rafiq went to Manjeshwar. There, he was arrested under the Goonda Act and sent to Thrissur Jail.

SP Bhushan further said that Khalia Rafiq was taken to police custody from Thrissur Jail for investigation. It is suspected that the other accused Ramiz Raja and Faiya alias Fayaz are hiding in Dubai or Sharjah. A special team has been formed to arrest them. A special police team was formed under the leadership of town police inspector Abdul Khader to nab Mohammed Haneef who has been absconding since the crime. Mohammed was arrested on June 21 at Ukkuda bus stand in Vittal. After the investigation, another pistol was recovered from him.

Mohammed Haneef was involved in various crimes, with 7 cases registered against him in Karnataka and Kerala – Bengaluru Airport police station for fake note case, looting case in the Vittal police station, Bevinje shootout case in Kasaragod, Talapady shootout case in Ullal police station and a dacoity case in Konaje police station.

The mastermind behind this crime, Kali Yogish, is hiding in a gulf country. Yogish is also involved in various crimes and cases have been registered against him in Mangaluru and Udupi police stations. Kali Yogish had also threatened the owner of Muliya Jewellers for money and has been absconding since then. A high-level team has been formed to nab Kali Yogish, Ramiz Raja and Faiya alias Fayaz.

The operation was carried out by the Puttur sub-division ASP Rishyanth, police inspector Mahesh Prasad, Puttur town police station inspector Abdul Khader, ASI Panduranga, Venkataramana Gowda, Head Constables Skariya, Krishnappa, Jayaram, Uday Kumar, Prashanth Rai, Prashanth Shetty and Manjunath. Higher officials appreciated the efforts by the team in nabbing the accused and announced a reward of Rs 25,000.
