40000 Beneficiaries to get Gas Connection under Ujjwala Yojana – MP Nalin

Mangaluru: “There is a revolution sweeping through India’s hinterland the quest for smokeless kitchens. The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), driven by the exemplary vision of our Prime minister Narendra Modi and the Missionary zeal of Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan have created this revolution to take the clean and green LPG fuel to millions economically underprivileged households. Under the Ujjwala Yojana, all the BPL card holders will get a Gas Cylinder and Stove free of cost. In 2011 to 2016 44000 applications have been received and so far we have distributed only 4000 connections,” said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel in a press meet held at Hotel Ocean Pearl here on July 21.

Addressing the mediapersons Nalin Kumar said, “In olden days to get a Gas connection people were waiting for years. But when Vajpayee was in power the government had provided direct gas connections to the people. When the UPA government came to power there were discussions to provide gas cylinders to the people. But the BJP government led by PM Narendra Modi is providing gas connections to all the BPL families free of cost through the Ujjwala Yojana. Under this scheme, the beneficiaries will get free Gas Cylinders and Stove.”

MP Nalin further said, “The aim of the Ujjwala Yojana is to provide free gas connection to 5 crore beneficiaries. Already 2.5 crore people have benefitted from the Ujjwala Yojana. The Ujjwala Yojana was inaugurated on May 1, 2016, in Ballia by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the state, the Ujjwala Yojana was launched in Hubballi on June 17. Those who had applied in 2011 will be provided with the Gas Cylinder and Stove. According to the SECC report, there are 44000 beneficiaries in Dakshina Kannada district out of which 4000 beneficiaries have already received the Gas Stove and Cylinder.”

Nalin also said, “On July 23 at 11 am, a convention will be held at Bantwal. Those who have applied for the Gas Cylinder and Stove will be trained to use the gas. We have expected 2500 beneficiaries for the convention. Prior to the convention, we will identify the beneficiaries and those who would like to apply for the Gas Stove and Cylinder can also apply. On August 15 the Ujjwala Yojana will be launched in Dakshina Kannada. Within 2 months we will provide the Gas connection to the beneficiaries free of cost”.
