A Big Win for Mangalore One Employees with Help from INTUC
Mangaluru: After years of harassment from their employer-CMS, the employees of Mangalore One have won big, with the help from Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC). Employees of Mangalore One, under the aegis of INTUC staged a demonstration in front of the MCC office on July 20, 2018 to condemn the termination of the services of six women employees and for denying minimum wages to the employees. The Women employees were terminated for protesting against denial of minimum wages. Later State INTUC president Rakesh Malli had met minister U T Khader, CMS Director Vishnuvardan Reddy, other board members of INTUC and few other politicians in the Vidhana Soudha on 6 August, and discussed about this situation and come to a proper settlement.
Addressing the media persons at Mangalore Press Club, State INTUC President Rakesh Malli said, “Justice has been served finally for the six women of Mangalore One who were terminated unnecessarily, and also to the nearly 2000 employees of this company statewide. It has been resolved that the six terminated employees will be hired back, and employees of Mangalore One will be paid Rs 14,130.60 monthly as per minimum wages prescribed. Earlier for years the employees used to get around Rs 5000-6000, which was against the labor laws”.
“INTUC would like to thank minister U T Khader and MLC Ivan D’souza for their involvement in this issue and trying to settle it for the benefit of these hard working Mangalore One employees. Our fight to serve justice for the employees of Mangalore One has been fruitful and successful. We would like to inform the public that if any employees are facing harassment or denial of minimum wage to contact our INTUC office officials, and we will fight for their cause” added Malli.
Earlier State Minister for Housing and Urban Development U T Khader had met the agitators and assured to take up the issue with the government. He also promised to speak to the Andhra based CMS company and request it to reinstate the terminated employees. He had also asked the DC to submit a report- Minister Khader’s efforts has now being materialized, with Mangalore One employees enjoying the benefits like others.
