
A J Hospital & Research Centre conducts ‘CME Programme’ to mark ‘World Cancer Day’
Mangaluru: On the occasion of world cancer day and the Decennial year celebration of A.J. Cancer Institute, a CME program was organized at A.J. Hospital & Research Centre on Saturday, 4th February 2023.
Dr Lavanya Gurram, Associate professor, Department of Radiation Oncology, Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai spoke about Cervical cancer in the Indian Subcontinent and the importance of educating the students and clinicians to counter this difficulty our country faces. She also spoke about how far the medical fraternity has to go to decrease the mortality rate among women in India.
A.J. Cancer Institute celebrated its 10th year and Dr Kamalaksh K Shenoy Head of the Radiation Oncology Department spoke about the growth of the institute and a few rare cases it has seen in the past years. Inauguration of HPV Vaccine: During this event, HPV Vaccine was inaugurated by Dr Amitha P. Marla, Director Medical Administration, Dr Lavanya Gurram and other dignitaries.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections are one of the most common sexually transmitted infections that can lead to invasive cervical cancer. To make the public aware of this, the HPV vaccine has been inaugurated and introduced in the hospital. These vaccines can prevent such infections. The preferred age group is 9-14 years. People willing to be vaccinated can consult their Paediatrician/Gynecologist before vaccination.
On behalf of World Cancer Day, another program will be organized on Thursday 9th February 2023. Founder of White Doves, Mrs Corrine Rasquinha is the chief guest of the program along with Dr Rachan Shetty, Consultant Medical Oncologist, A.J. Hospital and Research Centre.
Dr Kavitha, Consultant Radiation Oncologist introduced Dr Lavanya Gurram. Dr Vishwanath, Consultant Surgical Oncologist Welcomed the gathering. Dr Harsha Shaju gave the vote of thanks. Dr Mohana Murali hosted the program.
