A Jain inscription found in Kalasa
An unpublished Jaina inscription of the medieval period found in a Jaina Basadi of the Chikkamagaluru district. It was written in Kannada script and language. It is found written on the back of an image of Chnadranatha Tirthankara in 10 lines, says Prof. T. Murugeshi in his press release here today.
It was stated that in the Angirasa Savatsara Aashada Suddha Dasami Murara vivaradalu, these given details of date, corresponding to 1512 A.D. July 2nd Friday. On that specified date and day, Devchandra Deva a Jaina teacher of Panasoge bali was said to be installed a miniature Chnadranatha Tirthankar. It was done due to some unhappy event which can saw by eyes and which can be heard by ears by Devachandra. Devachandra was a disciple of Lalithakirti Acharya of Panasoge a small village in K.R. Nagar taluk of the Mysore districts. Chandranath Tirthankara was 8th Tirthankara among 24 Tirthankaras and Jwalamalini is his consort. Simhanagadde nearby Kalasa was a famous Jaina centre for Jwalamalini, says Prof. T. Murugeshi T.
