A Shame to the Renamed Rd! Dirty Drainage Water Oozing Out on MSRS Rd aka LHH Rd since 10 days

  • A Shame to the Renamed Road! Dirty Drainage Water Oozing Out on recently renamed ‘Mulky Sunder Ram Shetty Road, since 10 days, and MCC Officials have turned a blind eye, in spite of numerous complaints made by the nearby shop owners and citizens.

Mangaluru: When Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) got an order from High Court that it can go ahead and change the once existed St Aloysius College Road aka Light House Hill Road, it didn’t waste any days, instead quickly made plans, arranged a renaming ceremony, and the road was renamed as “Mulky Sunder Ram Shetty Road”, where Mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar, Deputy Mayor Mrs Vedavathi, and other leaders joyfully celebrated their success in renaming the road. Oh well, bah humbug!

But now that dirty drainage water has been oozing out of the manhole, right in front of the recently erected “Mulky Sunder Ram Shetty Road’ plaque, for the last ten days (according to the security of nearby ATM), there has been no quick action by the Mayor, nor MLA Vedavyas Kamath, in attending to this civic issue and rectifying the problem. When none of the MCC officials nor their contractors nor labourers bothered to fix the drainage water leaking problem, our Good Samaritan Abdul Rauf rushed to the spot and managed to control the traffic situation, when this water leaking problem was creating traffic chaos. Abdul Rauf has been helpful in many incidents in the City, when there is a traffic jam, due to road construction, Utility works, drainage works etc, by controlling the traffic for a smooth flow. Rauf has been a saviour in many such incidents, and he should be recognized as a “Covid-19 Warrior” for his community service, during the pandemic.

An employee of the nearby garment shop said, “For the last few days we have been bearing with the stink of the dirty drainage water, and when speeding vehicles run over this dirty water, it gets splashed on our displayed garments. Even though we had made a complaint to MCC until today no one has taken any action. They call this City a Smart City for what, when we see such a pathetic situation, which is not rectified by the elected leaders and MCC soon”.

The security of a nearby ATM said, “It has been hard to bear the smell sometimes when the dirty water flows out of the manhole. I have seen commuters waiting for their buses covering their noses, unable to bear the stink. People are also seen walking in this dirty water with no other choice since the water has been flowing on the road. Many times, two-wheelers get splashed with this dirty water when heavy vehicles move on it. I only hope that someone will take care of this situation soon”.

Pedestrians in the city are facing a tough time due to this civic issue, and MCC has turned a blind eye to it since days. Seems like when this City road is stinking due to sewage overflow, MCC officials have turned a blind eye. Though it is a common phenomenon during the rainy season, the MCC never takes any action when there is a problem, for days- and that has been their routine habit. Even if they are flooded with complaints, they give a damn, in attending complaints like sewage overflowing on roads, missing manhole covers and water logging- and this is one example, which has taken over a week to fix it- and in the meantime, the commuters and motorists are facing the brunt of it.

In Conclusion, IF MCC WAS QUICK IN RENAMING THE LIGHTHOUSE HILL ROAD AKA ST ALOYSIUS COLLEGE ROAD IN NO TIME, HOW COME IT HAS TAKEN SO MANY DAYS TO FIX THIS CIVIC ISSUE, WHICH HAS PUT PEDESTRIANS AND MOTORISTS IN HARDSHIP?
