‘A Token of Care for the Guardians of the Road,’ by Father Muller
Mangaluru: Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH) marked World Health Day 2026 with a comprehensive health awareness program, extending a gesture of care to the city’s traffic police personnel. The event, titled “A Token of Care for the Guardians of the Road,” was organized by the hospital’s Quality Department and held on April 15th, 2026, drawing participation from over 150 members of the Mangalore Traffic Police.

In alignment with the World Health Day theme, “Together for Health: Stand with Science,” the initiative focused on promoting the health and well-being of traffic police officers, addressing occupational health concerns, and emphasizing preventive care. The program specifically targeted prevalent issues such as stress, fatigue, dermatological problems arising from sun exposure, noise pollution issues, and lifestyle-related conditions leading to musculoskeletal disorders.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Uday Kumar, Medical Superintendent, FMMCH, who greeted dignitaries including Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI); Mr. K. Ravi Shankar (KSPS), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime & Traffic); Rev. Fr. George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator, FMMCH; Rev. Dr. Michael L. Santhumayor, Administrator, FMMC; and Mr. Shivkumar, Inspector of Police Traffic.
Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo welcomed the Chief Guest, Mr. K. Ravi Shankar, with a sapling. Symbolically representing care and support, Director FMCI presented Mr. Shankar with a care package kit containing products from the Father Muller Homoeopathic Pharmaceutical Division, designed to alleviate heat-related discomfort and body pain often experienced during long hours of duty. Similar care package kits were distributed to all participating traffic police personnel. Mr. Shankar then delivered a keynote address, which was well-received by the audience. A memento was also presented to the Chief Guest.
Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo delivered the presidential address in Kannada, focusing on the dedication and altruistic nature of the traffic police force.
The program featured a series of health awareness sessions conducted by medical professionals from Father Muller Medical College Hospital and associated institutions:
Session 1: Dr. Rahul Nayak and Dr. Sushmitha, Senior Residents from the Department of Dermatology, addressed the health challenges faced by police personnel due to prolonged exposure to sunlight and extended periods of standing.
Session 2: Dr. Cynthia Santhumayor, Principal, FMCOSH, delivered an informative session on the effects of noise pollution and exposure to high-decibel sounds, explaining the physiological impact of excessive noise on hearing.
Session 3: Mr. Pradeep KP, Lecturer, Father Muller College of Physiotherapy, focused on managing musculoskeletal problems, demonstrating exercises to prevent and manage such conditions.
Following the sessions, a lunch was provided to all participants. The program was compared by Ms. Sonal Sophia Fernandes and Ms. Shyni Cardoza from the Quality Department. The vote of thanks was proposed, acknowledging the contributions of all involved. The event concluded with the National Anthem.
Special appreciation was extended to Assistant Sub Inspector Mr. Harish HP, PA to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, for assisting in managing the participation of traffic police personnel. Dr. Kelvin Peter Pais, Liaison Officer, FMCI, Ms. Chitra Yathindra, Quality Manager, FMMCH, and Mr. Leslie Rosario from Marketing FMMCH were also acknowledged for their contributions to the program’s conception and execution. Rev. Fr. George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator, FMMCH, was recognized for his approval and logistical support.
The initiative was well-received by the traffic police personnel, who expressed their gratitude and satisfaction. The program concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of prioritizing health and well-being among those who dedicate themselves to safeguarding public safety.
