Father’s Day is officially over. The presents have been sent, and the hugs have already been given. It’s these kinds of times that I start to wonder what it’s all worth. It seems that everyone needs an excuse to say ‘Thank You.’ I, personally, wasn’t sure whether or not to buy into this gift giving holiday. I wanted to make sure he knew I loved him but he’s never been into the gifts. He always says that he doesn’t need them. Initially, I was planning on waking up earlier and cooking him a large Indian breakfast but, since I slept through my alarm, instead I spent most of the day saying “Happy Father’s Day” to make up for it. I’m hoping he got the message.

I guess the real point behind that story was how we all seem to take things for granted. I think I’ve written on this point before but it’s one of those things that can get lost in the everyday shuffle. We all know we should “live everyday to the fullest” or “live each day as if it’s your last” but that doesn’t seem to change any of our daily routines. I’ve had people telling me to write this article for a long time now. I’m quite sorry to all of my readers for not writing in such a long time. It just seems that having an article on Mangalorean.com got lost in the shuffle of my everyday life.

I think the main problem in today’s society is that everything needs to be fast. No one can wait anymore. Restaurants need to give us our food in very short amounts of time or we complain. Computers have to download information in seconds or we buy another one that can. Everything has to be at the speed of light. I’ve found that I’ve gotten tired of the fast paced life around me. Lately, I’ve learned that life is more interesting than I’ve been given it credit for being. Instead of simply walking passed the garden on the side of my house, I’ve learned to smell the roses. Instead of complaining about the rain, I’ve learned to enjoy it. Life’s about enjoyment.

I find it amusing how I, in my teens, have begun to slow down and look at things more slowly. Just today, I had said something to my dad and he replied, “Yes, Mother.” I’m starting to believe in the clich? about life being more about the simple things and less about what the media portrays it to be. Honestly, I’ve found that a simple storm or a star-filled night would make me happier than having a new dress or some more money. I never knew that everything around me was as magical as it is until I took the time to look around.

This may seem like another boring clich? but if at least one of you readers takes it to heart, it will have been worth my time. Life’s not as complicated and difficult as it seems if we just let ourselves to take the time to enjoy it.
