Actor Bill Nunn dead at 62

Los Angeles, Sep 25 (IANS) Actor Bill Nunn, best known as Radio Raheem in Spike Lee’s “Do The Right Thing”, has died. He was 62.

Lee announced the news on Facebook on Saturday, saying the actor passed away in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, earlier in the day, reports dailymail.co.uk.

The post read: “My Dear Friend, My Dear Morehouse Brother – Da Great Actor Bill Nunn As Most Of You Know Him As Radio Raheem Passed Away This Morning In His Hometown Of Pittsburgh. Long Live Bill Nunn.”

He added: “Radio Raheem is now resting in power. Radio Raheem will always be fighting da powers dat be. May God watch over Bill Nunn.”

The director also shared an image of Nunn as Radio Raheem, with the ‘love’ and ‘hate’ brass knuckles he wore in the film.

In addition to Lee’s iconic 1989 movie, Nunn starred in Lee’s “He Got Game”, “School Daze” and “Mo’ Better Blues”. He is also known for playing Robbie Robertson in the original Spider-Man trilogy movies, starring Tobey Maguire.

Nunn also appeared in movies “New Jack City”, “Regarding Henry and Sister Act”, as well as numerous TV projects over his long career.

He founded the Bill Nunn Theater Outreach Program, which awards scholarships to high school students who participate in an August Wilson monologue competition.
