‘Adopted Son’ now Refuses Paying ‘Foster Mother’s’ Bills

Team Mangalorean have been following up this abuse/neglect case by a so called “Adopted Son”-Arun Kumar against his “Foster Mother”, 92-year-old Alice D’Souza, who has been still admitted in ICU at a private hospital in the City- and where now Arun is refusing to pay her medical expenses which has crossed over Rs 2.75 lakhs

Mangaluru: Couple of days ago, one of our ardent readers, L D’Souza had written to Mangalorean.com stating, ” Mr Alfie and the Mangalorean.com team , kindly visit Ms. Alice D’Souza and see her condition and how she is doing. It’s not enough only if you write what’s told to you to report. I guess you need to personally go and visit her and follow up whether Arun Kumar is doing the needful and whether treatment is provided to her in a fair manner and if she is getting better or not . She needs a lot of prayers and emotional support rather than praises. Your reporting will be complete if you get the right facts. News reporting is good to highlight such cases but what makes it excellent is if it is followed up with emotional bonding . So I kindly request you and your team to report her condition after visiting her. To all the readers and her relatives kindly keep her in your prayers and go and visit her “. Taking into consideration L D’ Souza’s statement, Team Mangalorean made a visit to the hospital and got the latest results.

92-Yr-Old Alice D'Souza abandoned by 'Adopted Son' (5)

Surprisingly we found out that even after Senior Citizen Helpline followed up this case in the court, where Assistant Commissioner (AC) Dr Ashok ordered Arun Kumar to pay Alice D’Souza’s medical expenses, which has now reached near to Rs 2.75 lakhs- but Arun who had assured the AC that he would start paying the hospital bills, has now refused to do so when the hospital had called on him couple of days ago, to settle the bills as early as possible. Since the AC had ordered the hospital staff to give Alice the good care and treatment while she is still in critical state in the ICU, the hospital management have been doing their best, but unfortunately the ‘Adopted Son” is not willing to bear the cost of his foster mother’s treatment.

As reported earlier, Alice D’Souza, aged 92 was admitted to Global Hospital by her neighbors after her ‘adopted son’, Arun abandoned her and she fell ill with Malaria, Jaundice and Diarrhea. Even Arun’s wife nor his kids cared for Alice when she got sick, even after she has done so much for them. This is a true story of ungratefulness! When the hospital management had requested Arun to pay for Alice’s medical bills, he refused saying that he didn’t admit her to the hospital, but the neighbors did. Having come to know about this, Alice had filed a complaint to senior citizen helpline from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, following which Co-ordinator Lidwyn of the Helpline took up the case.

Helpline through a complaint approached Assistant Commissioner Dr Ashok, who showing full support to this case visited the hospital, talked to Alice and recorded the statements from her and ordered Arun Kumar to pay the bills, after finding that Arun had registered the apartment in Dukes Manor, Matadakani Road, Mangaluru (which legally belongs to Alice) in his name. On AC’s orders, Arun agreed to pay the bills, requesting the hospital management to give him some time, for which the management agreed. The AC also warned Arun then, that if he breaks his promises the apartment sale deed will be canceled, and further action would be taken.

But now it looks like Arun has not heed to AC’s orders, and is avoiding himself in settling the medical expense bills of Alice, even after the hospital staff reminded him few days ago, that the bills have crossed over Rs 2.75 lakh as of 29 July 2016. When Team Mangalorean contacted Lidwyn of Senior Citizen Helpline she said, “We are trying to get the proper documents to proceed further with this case. AC Dr Ashok has said that he would cancel the apartment sale deed soon. Also we have come to know that the house tax for the apartment has not been paid since 2007. Helpline will approach AC Dr Ashok on Monday as to what action could be taken against Arun, since Alice is still suffering in pain, and the hospital management is asking to settle her medical bills”.

  1. Mr Alfie, Ms.Lidwyn and Mangalorean.com please don’t give up. What ever You People are doing today will be Blessed by Almighty God with Blessing on your family along. I would have joined you all,but at present I am out of Country. I hope AC Dr.Ashok will hurry up in His actions and Seize the Apartment. MCC also should seize the Property as Tax liability. This is the only message Arun gets to His Brain.

My question here is where are those People, who preach “Visit the Sick” and “Love thy neighbor as God Loved You” If Alice had the money, few of them would have Loved Her and visited Her bedside as Consolation.

PS: How is that MCC Revenue Dept. did not realize that Property Taxes are not paid since 2007? This part also needs Investigation.

  2. Nice job by Team Mangalorean- keep up the good work that you are all entrusted with–you will surely be blessed by this senior lady. Strict action should be taken against Arun Kumar for neglecting this old lady, even though she fed and gave a place in her house.
