AEROPHILIA ’18- a Natl Level Aero-modelling Contest/Air Show Inaugurated at Sahyadri college

Mangaluru: Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management has taken the initiative to widen the innovative prospects in the field of aeronautics. Students of all grades and colleges across the country are invited to a two day National Level Aeromodelling competition “AEROPHILIA 2018” – an annual event on 26th & 27th of January 2018 held at Sahyadri Campus, Mangaluru. This competition provides a platform to the students to showcase their talents and pursue their passion in a field that is very unique and provide eclectic opportunities. A part from Aeromodelling there is a various other event conducted during Aerophilia like Drone Race, Water rocket, Chuck glider, Rubik’s Cube, Paper Plane, Treasure hunt, PC Games and photography. Student all over this region has take part in this competition. Total 105 participant and 50 teams where participated in the Competition.

Inaugural programme Chief guests Group Capt. Colnen Mahendra Babu and Mr. M J Augustin. Mr. Augustin declared the opening of Aerophilia 2018 air show. Vice Principal Mr. S S Balakrishna presided over the function and thanked the Chief Guest for being the part of the event. Mr. Vishal Rao from Kinetic Hobies was the guest of honour. Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary and Trustees Devadas Heggde and Jagannath Chowta, Principal Dr Umesh N Bhushi, Administrator Dr C K Manjunath were also present in the Air show. The guest Shared their experience and knowledge regarding their profession and about Aerophilia event.

The Aerophilia 2018 airshow is performed by Mr. Abdullah Gaseem and Mr. Eessa Saeed. It is open to the public and all students on 26th January 2018. The air show will provide a multitude of learning experiences in mathematics, history, arts/graphics and science.

The Aerophilia 2018 winners will be honored with cash prizes worth of INR 2,75,000/-. This event will attract the Nation’s aero modelling enthusiasts to Mangalore. Apart from Aeromodelling we also have another exiting surprise for this year too, one of the India’s finest Drone Race with cash prize worth INR 50,000.

The competition is held for two days at Sahyadri campus and the participating teams are expected to design a radio controlled aircraft with the limitations regulated in its dimension and the power system for the main event Aeromodelling. The aircraft is validated by its maneuverability and maximum payload carrying capacity, which will be tested in three successive rounds. Special attractive air shows will be performed by National and International radio flyers of National repute. IITs and NITs – the elite institutions of our nation are expected to participate in this competition.

The highlights of our event are:

· Fixed Wing and 3D Helicopter Airshow by a professional team of 5 from India and Dubai.

· Eminent guest from DRDO, Air force, ISRO and IISc.

· Attractive cash prize for Aeromodelling, Drone Race and other competitions.

Expected spectators and Participants in total is about 1000-1500 students from various institute of our nation. We have eminent delegates who will share their expertise in their domain interest thereby enlightening our efforts.

This event is organized by Team Challengers of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management; a group of students passionate about Aeronautics and Robotics. Experienced students who have participated in SAE International Aero Design Competition 2016 and 2017 held at Fort Worth, Texas, and Lakeland, Florida, USA, Boeing Aero Modeling Competition and various other aero-modeling competitions are the organizing committee and the future prospects remains the same with more innovative ideas.
