Kolkata:  After 27 years, two persons have been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for one year for possessing and dealing in smuggled gold.

On the basis of information, the officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had intercepted Poddar and Das near south Kolkata’s Debendra Ghosh Road on July 2, 1990, and recovered ten pieces of gold bars of foreign origin weighing 1,160 grams and collectively valued at Rs 4,00,000.

The recovered gold bars were seized under the provisions of Customs Act.

On completion of investigation, a complaint petition was filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Calcutta in 1992.
