AJ Hospital Leads Cadaver Organ Harvesting in DK

Mangaluru: Babu K V, a 34-year-old construction worker from Vadasery Village, Near Payyanur, Kannur District, Kerala had a fall from the first floor while working at a construction site near Cheemeni, Payyanur.

Babu sustained head injuries and was rushed to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital and after the first aid he was shifted to AJ Hospital. Babu was admitted to AJ Hospital on April 2, evening. He was declared brain dead on April 4, midnight.

 

Soon after learning the brain death, the team at AJ Hospital swung into action and approached Babu’s brother for the organ donation with the help of a journalist Aneesh Balan who is from their hometown.

Babu is survived by 3-year-old daughter Diya, wife Sandhya, brother, father and mother.

“Jeevanvileena” the organ donation awareness campaign by A J Hospital is yielding results and more people are volunteering / helping people to donate organs.

Following are the organs being harvested:

• Liver – taken to Bangalore as per the directive from ZCCK;
• Kidney – One kidney is being transplanted at A J Hospital and another Kidney will be sent another hospital soon.

Another kidney is transplanted to a patient in Yenepoya successfully on 5/4/16.
Patient is recovering well
