‘Art May Change, Not Our Care’! Association of Physicians of India (API)-Dakshina Kannada Chapter Launches its FIRST e-Magazine ‘API DK Lahari’ the Official Publication of the Association on Tuesday, 29 September 2020 at Father Muller Medical College ‘Knowledge Centre Hall’.

Mangaluru: ‘Association of Physicians of India'(API) is a professional body of consultant physicians formed in 1944. It’s members are physicians with postgraduate qualifications in different specialities. Currently the membership of the association is 19,500 and it is increasing every year. Obviously this Association is the most elite physician’s fraternity in India. This Association conducts various educational and professional activities for its members throughout the year. The vision of a few stalwart Physicians of India gave birth to the idea of forming the Association of Physicians of India, mainly to provide a common forum to the Physicians of India to meet and to share experience and research observations in the field of Medicine.

The API Dakshina Kannada Chapter Mangaluru was established in the year 1990, and inaugurated by Dr B. V. Rajgopal, API President, Karnataka chapter that year. Now the association has grown in strength consisting of nearly 175 Physicians, Pulmonologists, Oncologists, Endocrinologists, Neurologists, Nephrologists, Gastroenterologists, Cardiologists, Rheumatologists and Hematologists from Mangaluru, Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia and Moodbidri and other parts of DK. The association was started to promote fellowship among the members, and to realize common goals through periodic meetings, seminars and symposiums for updation of professional skills. The API D.K. Chapter has a creditable record in this field and has lived up to the expectations of its members. The domain of the API does not remain confined purely to the academic but stretches beyond. It had 30 presidents who have guided it ably from its inception and has played a greater role until now and will, in the years to come.

Apart from conducting various programmes and activities since its inception, API -DK has added yet another feather to its cap by launching its FIRST e-Magazine, their Official Publication named ‘API DK Lahari’, which was launched on Tuesday, 29 September 2020 at 3 pm at Father Muller Medical College ; Knowledge Centre Hall, Mangaluru. The chief guest for the launching ceremony was Fr Richard Coelho, Director, father Muller Charitable Institutions; along with other dignitaries on the dais, namely- Dr Jayaprakash Alva-Dean, FMMC; Dr Venkatesh B M- President, API DK Chapter; Dr Chakrapani M- Editor-in-Chief; Dr Sadananda Naik- Executive Editor; and Dr Archana Bhat- Production Editor/Secretary of API DK Chapter. The e-Magazine will be published once in every three months.

In his inaugural address Fr Richard Coelho said, “It’s nice to note that API-DK since its inception thirty years ago, had launched its FIRST e-Magazine, which will comprise of various projects done by the doctors, and will give an opportunity for the doctors to express their feelings, thoughts, views and news, so that the community will know more about them. This magazine will also be useful in updating the existing trends, for the knowledge of everyone. Through ‘API DK Lahari’ doctors can express their feelings, both personal and professional life. May this e-mag encourage others also to contribute their stories/articles/thoughts . I wish the editorial team and the e-mag ‘API DK Lahari’ all success”.

Dr Jayaprakash Alva speaking said, “Things are progressing at API-DK since its inception. Decades ago they didn’t have many programmes, but recently they have organized quite a few projects, and this is a very good initiative to launch a e-magazine for the first time, where others could know as to what’s happening at API-DK. Apart from this e-mag, I remember the association launching their website in June 2020. The e-magazine is an opportunity to vent out doctors feelings, thoughts, views and news, and every member of this association should contribute. Give vent to your feelings when opportunity strikes. With two knowledgeable editors and a strong editorial board, I am sure this e-magazine will benefit many and spread good news of the medical sector and fraternity”

Dr Venkatesha B M speaking said, “New dreams, new hopes, new experiences and new joys-I am overwhelmed with the launch of the inaugural first quarterly issue of e-magazine of our Association. While congratulating the e-magazine committee under the able guidance and supervision of Prof Chakrapani M, the editor-in-chief, a very intellectual, farsighted leader and Dr Sadananda Naik, an enthusiastic executive editor for taking up the challenge along with all other members of the editorial board. I am sure all API-DK members will definitely support this initiative by involving themselves in writing academic, non-academic articles, experiences and interesting case reports in future issues. I request academic bodies like API, IMA and CSI to facilitate in conducting PG’s and Interns teaching and learning CME’s. In this context API-DK chapter is planning few academic activities for post graduates and interns.”

Editor-in-chief Dr Chakrapani speaking said, “Medical practice is evolving and changing rapidly. Physicians have to update the clinical skills and knowledge constantly. While journals and guidelines provide evidence-based information, there is a need for integrating it with pragmatic and practical knowledge which can come from practicing physicians. There is a need to share our thoughts, experiences and ideas among ourselves- VOCAL to LOCAL. API-DK is therefore providing a platform for this exchange of information and experience in the form of official publication ‘API-DK Lahari’. Rich experience of seniors and energetic technological knowledge of junior physicians can be integrated in ‘Lahari’ which will enhance the standards of the profession”

The welcome address was delivered by Dr Sadananda Naik, and Dr Mohammed Ashraf , the treasurer of API-DK proposed the vote of thanks- and the programme was meticulously and professionally compered by Dr archana Bhat.
