Ashraf’s Killers should be Arrested and his Family Compensated – SDPI

Mangaluru: “The SDPI Ammunje Zone President Mohammed Ashraf (33) from Kalayi was brutally hacked to death on June 21. Ashraf was an active person and used to mingle with people from all walks of life. On June 21, after filling the potholes on the road in Kalayi he had dropped Sheena Poojary to a Beedi Shop near Ramnagar where Ashraf was hacked to death by unidentified persons. It is a preplanned murder by the Sangh Parivar. Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat is a criminal who has many cases against him, he should be arrested”, said the National General Secretary of Social Democratic Party of India Elyas Mohammed Thumbay in a press meet held at the SDPI office here on June 22.

Addressing the media persons Elyas Thumbay said, “Ashraf was an Auto driver, he was taking Sheena Poojary, a specially abled person to his Beedi Shop located in Ramnagar and bringing him back home thrice a week. On June 22, Ashraf had taken Sheena Poojary to his Beedi shop. While he was waiting for Sheena Poojary, some persons hacked Ashraf to death. When the news of Ashraf’s murder spread the entire Muslim community in Benjanpadav was in shock. In Dakshina Kannada district especially in Bantwal Taluk, Muslims have been targetted a number of times. A number of attempt to murder cases have taken place in Bantwal. Recently, youth from Sangh Parivar had pelted stones on the police from the Ram Mandir premises but cases were registered against the Muslim youth.”

Elyas further said, “On June 20, at Thumbay there was an attempt on a Muslim youth. Two months ago Jalil Karopady was murdered at the Gram Panchayat premises. The Sangh Parivar is involved in delivering inciting speeches. When the elections are nearing, the Sangh Parivar and BJP are playing the Hindutva Card for vote bank. The police department and the district administration has failed to maintain the law and order in the district. If the situation continues the development of the district will be at stake.”

Elyas also said, “The police should arrest the culprits in the Ashraf murder case as soon as possible and compensate Ashraf’s family. The illegal activities of Sangh Parivar should be curbed and the Sangh Parivar should be banned. The law and order situation has collapsed in the district. Since the District Minister In-charge has failed to maintain the law and order situation in the district, he should resign”.

SDPI leaders Siddique Puttur, Iqbal Bellare, Iqbal Goodinabali, Nasir Sajipa, Ummer Sullia, Munish Bantwal, Alphonso Franko and Sadiq (Ashraf’s brother) were also present.
