Assam govt destroyed drugs worth Rs 300 crore in 100 days of crackdown
Guwahati: The Assam government has destroyed narcotic substances valued at around Rs 300 crore during the first 100 days of the BJP-led administration, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday, underlining the state’s intensified campaign against drug trafficking.
The seized contraband was destroyed at Daulasal in Nalbari district at Assam’s first dedicated narcotics incineration facility. The Chief Minister said the action reflected the government’s continued efforts to dismantle drug supply chains and prevent seized narcotics from re-entering circulation.
“Tick tock on the clock, the crackdown doesn’t stop. 100 days, 100% action,” Sarma said in a post on X. He said the government’s anti-drug drive was focused not only on seizures and arrests but also on eliminating trafficking networks operating across the state.
“Seizures, arrests, destruction of drug networks, we are sending one message loud and clear: There is no place to hide,” Sarma said, reiterating the government’s commitment to taking strict action against drug peddlers and trafficking syndicates.
Giving details of the enforcement drive under the theme “100 days of Surakshit Assam”, Sarma said narcotics worth approximately Rs 300 crore had been destroyed at the Nalbari facility.
The Chief Minister also highlighted a series of anti-narcotics operations carried out across nine districts over a 10-day period. According to him, drugs estimated to be worth Rs 472.51 crore were seized during these operations. The seizures included around 30.7 kg of heroin and 5,499 kg of ganja, besides other prohibited substances, he said.
The Assam government has stepped up its campaign against narcotics trafficking since Sarma became Chief Minister in May 2021, with enforcement agencies conducting sustained operations against drug suppliers, peddlers and trafficking networks.
The state government has repeatedly described the fight against drugs as a key priority, combining seizures, arrests and destruction of confiscated contraband with efforts to disrupt organised trafficking networks.
