Autorickshaw Driver Attacked with Sword in Hiriyadka, Two in Custody

Udupi: Udupi police have apprehended two individuals in connection with an attempted murder that occurred in Hiriyadka on the night of May 1st. The incident involved an autorickshaw driver, identified as Abubakar, 50, a resident of Atradi, who was allegedly attacked with a sword.

According to police reports, the incident took place at approximately 11:15 PM. Abubakar was driving his auto rickshaw from Atradi towards Madaga when he was reportedly pursued by two men on a motorcycle. The suspects, identified as Sandesh, 31, from Bommarabettu, and Sushanth, 32, from Bapuji Darakasu, allegedly attempted to force Abubakar to stop his vehicle.

Police reports indicate the suspects threatened the driver and initially attempted to obstruct his path. Upon noticing the pillion rider brandishing a sword, Abubakar stopped the autorickshaw near the Rose Bus House in Shedigudde and attempted to escape. The assailants allegedly struck Abubakar on the head with the sword, inflicting minor injuries. They also reportedly damaged the windshield of the autorickshaw with a bottle.

Abubakar managed to evade further attacks by seeking shelter in a nearby property. Law enforcement responded swiftly to the scene, leading to the immediate arrest of Sandesh and Sushanth. A case has been registered at the Hiriyadka police station.

The accused are facing charges of attempted murder and are expected to be presented before the court imminently. Authorities have confirmed that an ongoing investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attack and gather further details regarding the incident.
