Babu Haabi’s ‘Bobocanta’ in legal trouble over Gandhi’s depiction

Mumbai, Sep 11 (IANS) Rapper-singer Babu Haabi’s latest single “Bobocanta” has got embroiled in legal trouble for its depiction of Mahatma Gandhi.

The song, titled “Satyagraha se kuch na mila, jhooth ka jhanda lahraya”, has purportedly offended a section of people for showing Gandhi performing break-dance in front of a burning Parliament.

Lawyer Venkat Satyanarayan, objecting against the manner in which Gandhi has been depicted in the song, lodged a complaint in this regard at a Chembur police station on Friday.

He also criticised the lyrics calling them “provocative and objectionable, hurting the sentiment of Indians”.

However, Babu Haabi, who is known for his popular tracks “Chitta Ve” and “Dada Dasse” from Shahid Kapoor-starrer “Udta Punjab”, says the single depicts the anger of common people against the problems they face.

“Actually the single is an angst. Every Indian is full of anger whether it is anger against politicians or anger against the quality of roads. So, this song is based on the rage of the common people, mixed with playfulness.

“The song raises some serious questions about the corruption in our country. Besides, this song also makes us laugh at ourselves,” he said.

Babu also said that he wants to revive Gandhi’s message to “Be the change you want to be”.

“The message of this song is that start asking questions. Just ask yourself what are the type of changes you want to see and make an effort to bring in those changes,” he said.
