Bagalkot: Engagement ceremony held over video call

Bagalkot: The nationwide lockdown enforced to prevent the spread of Covid-19 led a headmaster of the government high school at Attihal village in Hukkeri taluk in conducting engagement ceremony of his daughter through a video call with the groom being in Bagalkot, on Wednesday.

The engagement ceremony of headmaster Prakash Patil’s daughter Anusha with Mahantesh, son of Suresh Arkeri from Bagalkot, was scheduled on Wednesday. However, following the lockdown, both the families agreed to conduct the engagement rituals through a video call.

Patil said, the Arkeri family members co-operated for a simple engagement ceremony over the video call.

Anusha said, we have to follow the guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Irrespective of how many people will be present at the engagement ceremony, it was important for us to follow the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hence, we completed the rituals via video call, she added.

The ‘Yadi’ or list of rituals prepared by the elders was placed before the portraits of deity and offered prayers. Both the families witnessed it online. Groom Mahantesh too spoke over the video call.

Hukkeri Taluk Akshar Dasoha Scheme Assistant Director Srishail Hiremath complimented the Patil family.
