Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Shetty said, “Right now I am still keeping my bus conductor job, working three days in a week, while I will perform the Panchayat duties for the other three days. I need this job to support my family. If my job is too hectic and interferes with my Panchayat duties, I will quit it temporarily. Although my wife works at a hardware shop, it’s always better to have two incomes to sustain a family. People chose me for this Panchayat post for my dedicated service in the BJP party. I promise to do my duties to the best of my ability to serve the people in the community.”

“My main aim is to get the Netravathi water for residents, improve and repair the dilapidated roads, and develop the town. As a president of the Panchayat, I will implement plans for rainwater harvesting since some educational institutions have already implemented rainwater harvesting successfully. Serving my community and reaching out to their needs will be my main priority,” added Uday Kumar Shetty.

According to sources, in the Kotekar Town Panchayat elections held on 24 April 2016, the BJP won nine out of 17 seats, with Congress bagging four seats, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Social Democratic Party of India one each, and two rebel BJP candidates won as Independent candidates. Shetty secured 12 votes in the Kotekar TP presidential elections held a few days ago.
