Mangaluru: The District Minister In-charge B Ramanath Rai visited the Highland Hospital to meet injured youth who were assaulted by an unidentified group in Beltangady on June 25, and enquire about their condition.

After visiting the injured, Ramanath Rai speaking to Mangalorean.com said, “Two youth – Irfan and Nisar – were assaulted by unidentified men in Beltangady. The police are investigating the case. At present, without the full details, I cannot comment on this incident.” Irfan is undergoing surgery and Nisar is in the Intensive Care Unit.

Speaking to mangalorean.com, District Youth Congress President Mithun Rai said, “On June 25, Irfan and Nisar had both gone to Guruvayanakere to invite the family members of their would-be in-law for the wedding which was to take place on July 9. As Irfan is into the sand business, he received a call inquiring for 15 loads of sand. When they were going to meet the caller, both Nisar and Irfan were assaulted by unidentified men. We do not know the reason for the assault. Police are investigating the case. Both Irfan and Nisar are active members of the Youth Congress.”

After taking the statement from the two victims, the police have revealed that Irfan’s wedding was fixed in the month of July. In the night on June 25, Irfan, escorted by his cousin Nisar, was going by an auto-rickshaw to his prospective wife’s house at Guruvayanakere to invite her family for the wedding. On their way back, near Guruvayanakere, they received a phone call to discuss about the sand business and were asked them to meet at a certain place, during which a group of men assaulted Irfan and Nisar with weapons. With injuries sustained in the assault, Irfan is undergoing surgery, while Nisar has been admitted in an Intensive Care Unit.
