Belthangady: Minor Boy Allegedly Assaulted at Local Fair; Police Investigation Underway
Belthangady: Authorities have registered a case at the Belthangady Police Station following the alleged assault of a 17-year-old minor at a local fair. The incident, which reportedly occurred on March 11, 2026, is currently under investigation.
According to the official complaint filed with the police, the victim, a student attending a private educational institution in Belthangady, was visiting the fair with a group of schoolmates when the alleged assault took place.
Law enforcement officials report that a group of individuals confronted the boy, objecting to his presence at the fair. The basis of their objection was the accusation that the boy was accompanied by female companions belonging to a different religious community. The confrontation escalated, with the accused allegedly subjecting the boy to verbal abuse and physical assault at the scene.
The complaint further alleges that the accused individuals forcibly transported the boy on a motorcycle to a separate location. At this secondary location, the assault reportedly continued. Furthermore, it is alleged that the accused recorded a video of the victim, coercing him into stating that he had committed an offense, before releasing him.
The victim, reportedly traumatized and fearful following the incident, did not immediately report the assault. However, on March 18, 2026, the boy’s father approached the Belthangady Police Station and formally lodged a complaint detailing the events.
In response to the complaint, the police have registered a case (Crime No. 30/2026) under Sections 137(2), 115(2), 351(2), 352, 353(2), and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. These sections pertain to offenses including unlawful assembly, abetment of offenses, assault, and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace. Authorities have confirmed that further legal action is underway as the investigation progresses.
