Bengaluru: Cases of misuse of the Internet facility and irresponsible forwarding of messages without verifying the facts have been rampant these days.

The latest in the list is the circulation of a set of photographs supposedly clicked at the ‘wedding’ of minister U T Khader’s daughter. Some unidentified young woman laden with heavy gold ornaments has been shown as the bride, while in fact Khader has only a 12-year-old daughter Havva who is studying in VII standard and stays in a hostel like any common man’s daughter.

The motive of those who floated this canard on Whatsapp, Twitter, Facebook and other social media network was to show him in poor light and also as a man of lavish lifestyle.

Sources close to Khader said that he has displayed absolute dedication and commitment at work and his detractors are jealous of his popularity. Some innovative measures introduced by him in the department  of health have raised his career graph considerably.

Efforts are being made by such elements to defame and demoralize him, they said. The pictures have been in circulation over the past ten days. The minister and his family have been receiving a flurry of phone calls – some ‘congratulating’ him on the daughter’s ‘wedding’, some others expressing disappointment that they were not invited and a few others fuming over the marriage of a minor, with so much of show of ‘affluence’ at that. The outrage of the family is quite understandable.

Now a complaint has been filed by Hidayatullah, one of the personal staff of the minister, at the Vidhana Soudha police station. As the complaint came from a higher level, the police took immediate action with the help of the cyber cell. They are now gathering the details of all mobile numbers and persons. Some of them have been identified and they will be arrested soon, said police sources.
