Bengaluru (DHNS): Minister for health and family welfare U T Khader said on Thursday that the expert committee, which probed the deaths of four newborns at Kempegowda Institute for Medical Sciences (KIMS), has found several lapses in the maintenance of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

“With the postmortem not having been conducted, it might be difficult to arrive at the exact cause for death,” Khader said.

He added that the committee would submit a detailed report after visiting the parents of the babies that died of suspected infection at the hospital.

Khader admitted that the lapses may have existed in the hospital even before the deaths were reported.
