Bengaluru Metro East-West corridor opens

The underground stretch between Cubbon Park and City Railway Station on Namma Metro’s East-West corridor was finally inaugurated on Friday.

With this, the entire 18.10 km stretch of the Purple Line from Baiyappanahalli to Mysuru Road via Majestic has been thrown open to the public. Commuters can use services on this route from 6 am on Saturday.

The underground section was inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.

This stretch has 17 stations, including 6 underground stations covering a distance of 4.8 km. Underground work on Phase-I commenced in May 2011, and was the first of its kind in south India. Underground work on the north-south corridor from Majestic to K R Market is expected to be completed by August.
