Bengaluru vacant site owners face cleaning charges up to Rs 47,700

Bengaluru: Owners of vacant sites within the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) limits have been given a deadline of August 15 to clear accumulated waste, garbage and debris, failing which civic authorities will undertake the cleaning and recover the cost from property owners.

Cleaning charges range from Rs 6,700 to Rs 47,700 depending on site size, while waste transportation charges go up to Rs 1.28 lakh.

The GBA issued the public notice on Monday as part of its “Freedom from Waste” campaign aimed at keeping Bengaluru clean and hygienic.

According to the notice, owners must ensure that their vacant sites are cleared of waste and debris on or before August 15. The waste must be disposed of only at designated locations identified and notified by municipal authorities.

If owners fail to comply, the concerned municipal corporation will undertake the cleaning and removal of waste. The expenditure incurred will subsequently be recovered from property owners along with property tax.

For a 20 x 30, 600‑sq‑ft vacant site, cleaning charges have been fixed at Rs 6,700 without a compound wall and Rs 7,700 with one, while waste transportation charges stand at Rs 19,200.

For a 30 x 40, 1,200‑sq‑ft site, cleaning charges are Rs 13,400 without a compound wall and Rs 14,400 with one. Waste transportation charges are Rs 38,400.

For a 30 x 50, 1,500‑sq‑ft site, owners will have to pay Rs 16,750 for cleaning without a compound wall and Rs 17,750 with one, besides Rs 48,000 towards waste transportation.

For a 40 x 60, 2,400‑sq‑ft site, cleaning charges have been fixed at Rs 26,800 without a compound wall and Rs 27,800 with one. The waste transportation charge is Rs 76,800.

For a 50 x 80, 4,000‑sq‑ft site, the cleaning charge is Rs 46,700 without a compound wall and Rs 47,700 with one, while waste transportation charges have been fixed at Rs 1.28 lakh.

The GBA has stated that for sites exceeding the dimensions specified in the notification, expenditure will be recovered proportionately based on the property area.

The authority has urged vacant‑site owners to take responsibility for maintaining their properties in a clean and hygienic condition and avoid allowing them to become dumping grounds.
