BEWARE! Is there a fake Rs 500 Note in your Purse? Or Did You Receive One Unknowingly

Mangaluru: Just a minutes ago I received a picture of a fake Rs 500 currency note, where the “Reserve ” (for Reserve Bank ) has been spelled as “Resurve”? This is one recent example, but fake Indian currency notes, including Rs 500 are being circulated, until the culprits are caught. Many instances of people being caught with fake Rs 500 currency notes have come up. So have harrowing tales of people at bank ATMs receiving a fake note or two. So, the question is, whether you too have unknowingly come across a fake Rs 500 currency note unwittingly. Many times, this can lead to trouble as when a person goes to deposit a wad of currency in his own bank, the cashier tells you, to your shock, that a note is fake.

In this fake Rs 500 Currency Note, the ‘Reserve’ is spelled as ‘Resurve’?

It entails a lot of inconvenience and answering of questions. So, to ensure you save yourself from trouble, you must be able to do the basics right. Being able to differentiate between a real or fake Rs 500 currency note in your pocket not an easy task. You never know the note in your pocket/wallet/purse might be a fake one. However, you must ensure that the Rs 500 note or notes you have are not fake. RBI experts say t is not easy to convert original currency into fake one, however, some forgers are trying to produce duplicate notes, but many are not successful in that.

Here’s how to differentiate between original and fake Rs 500 currency notes:

If you hold a Rs 500 currency note then 500 rupees will be written in numbers. Also 500 rupees will be written in Devanagari script and in between there will be picture of Mahatma Gandhi. RBI and 500 will be written in small fonts. And if you hold the note in 45-degree angle, then the colour of the thread will change to blue and there will be 500 rupees written in a small circle. There will be a signature of the RBI governor and if you hold the note in 45-degree angle then in the blank space, there will a picture of Mahatma Gandhi. With the rupee’s symbol, there will be 500 written in English. On the right side, there will be Ashok Stambh and the year in which the note was produced. There will be Swachh Bharat logo with Gandhi and the picture of Red Fort.

So, when in doubt about the fake note, just whip out these points from your memory and make 100% sure whether it is a fake Rs 500 note that you are holding or the real thing.
