And for the FIRST time in the history of Kudla aka Mangaluru, a young, dynamic and popular Youth Congress leader’s birthday was celebrated by cutting a 100 Kg cake- and that Birthday Boy was Mithun Rai- the President of DK Youth Congress, who was also garlanded with a unique garland made of 60 kgs of apples- also seen for the FIRST time in Mangaluru!

Mangaluru: On 18 September 2018, a record of sorts was created in Surat, when a 680-foot long and 6,800kg cake was made to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 68th birthday by his fans, but here for the FIRST time in the history of Kudla aka Mangaluru, a young, dynamic and popular Youth Congress leader’s birthday was celebrated by cutting a 100 Kg cake, meticulously prepared by four experienced cake-makers brought all the way from Bengaluru, and the cake pieces were distributed among inmates of couple of orphanages in the City.

And this unique birthday bash for Mithun Rai (President of DK Youth Congress) on his 25th Janma Dina? (Ooops…add ten more years to that!) was hosted by Raghu- President of Youth Congress Rajarajeshwinagara-Bengaluru and his team members, joined by ‘Mithun Rai Abhimana Balaga’ (Fans of Mithun) of Mangaluru, at Karunamaya Trust- a NGO located in Jeppu Kudupadi Road, Mangaluru, on sunday, 4 October at 11 am. What a joy it was, to be gathered on the lovely Sunday morning, to celebrate a birthday of a young, dynamic and popular youth icon of Mangaluru, none other than Mithun Rai- and that too amidst the 25 less fortunate inmates of this NGO, which brought miles of smiles on their faces, joining in this unique celebration, they never seen before!

Karunamaya Trust, as the name suggests, with compassion and kind heart, managed by Elias Coelho and his wife Sylvia Coelho-both Trustees, lends a helping hand to those in distress, and at present feeds and cares around 25 persons, with a desire to increase the number. Poverty and destitution is something that is unwelcome, yet one gets it due to various reasons. It is characterized by hunger. Hundreds of destitutes and hungry people sleep on the City roads and pavements without any hope of tomorrow. With no one to turn to, their flight turns into misery. This is where Karunamaya Trust steps in helping such destitute in distress and tries to show the humane side of life. Starting with helping the needy for educational and medical needs, the Trust aims to feed the hungry on the streets. This initial attempt has made it imperative to the need of doing it more as there are more hungry people on the road.

And Mithun Rai who is known for his generosity and kindness to those in need and those in poverty, or those in need of funds for medical expenses, etc- he has always been on the forefront in rendering his help to those in distress and need. In view of the pandemic, Mithun was on forefront in helping the poor and needy persons/families, by supplying ration kits, and other essentials. And for such a kind-hearted person, Mithun, his fans decide to celebrate his 35th birthday in a special way and what better way than to celebrate it with those people who had been sacked out of their own house by their own children, or those landed on streets for other reasons. But this unique birthday celebration did put miles of smiles on the faces of the 25 plus inmates of Karunamaya Trust.

And Raghu- the President of Youth Congress Rajarajeshwinagara-Bengaluru and his team members who had come down for the birthday bash all the way from Bengaluru had specially sponsored the Rs 28,000 pineapple flavoured 100 Kg cake, and they also made a unique and also for the FIRST time someone here has ever seen it- a garland made of 60 kgs of apples. Wow- something unique and a thoughtful way of hosting a birthday party for their Congress Party Youth Leader- and Mithun deserved it for all the service and good deeds he does for the society. Following the cake cutting, and sharing the cake pieces with his fans gathered at the party, Mithun also shared it with a bunch of inmates of the NGO- that showed the kindness and love of Mithun towards the poor and less-fortunate. The lunch for the inmates was sponsored by ‘Mithun Rai Abhimana Balaga’, catered by Prince Caterers.

This was the best birthday that I have seen in my whole life, and it brought kind of tears in my eyes, seeing the senior inmates of Karunamaya Trust, enjoying every bit of the celebration, with happy faces. After serving food for the inmates, Mithun Rai speaking to Team Mangalorean said, “I never expected my fans and near and dear ones would host such a unique birthday bash, especially Ragu and his team coming down all the way from Bengaluru, and sponsoring the cake, garland of apples and other goodies, also not forgetting my fans ( ‘Mithun Rai Abhimana Balaga). I can say that this was the “Most memorable birthday in my life!

Had a great time celebrating my 35 years of life on earth, especially today with these lovable seniors of this Trust. Thank you all for making my day a special and memorable one, and I will remember it for the rest of my life. It feels great to have you all as my fans and supporters”.

Following the celebration at Karunamaya Trust, the team then went to ‘Snehadeep Orphanage- a HIV positive child care centre and orphanage in Bejai, Mangaluru, where little girls abandoned by their parents or families, is cared by a local woman, ‘Tabassum’ who takes care of 22 girls currently who are HIV positive. The celebration proceedings were handled by compere Suhan Alva- one of the upcoming Hero of Kudla!
