BJP MLA’s are fighting for Power and Congress Helping People to fight COVID-19 – Salim Ahmed

Udupi: KPCC working president Salim Ahmed has alleged that the BJP MLAs are busy in power politics and the opposition Congress party is helping the people to fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the state. He was speaking at a press meet held at the Congress Bhavan, Udupi on May 29.

Addressing the mediapersons Salim Ahmed said, “The ruling BJP government in Karnataka has failed to handle the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in untold hardship to the people and misery to thousands of migrant workers across the state over the last two months. The state government did not call the opposition party for discussion regarding the COVID-19 crisis and problems during the prolonged lockdown, which the government had announced suddenly. Due to sudden lockdown, many people faced a lot of problems, especially the migrant labourers”.

Salim Ahmed further said, “As an opposition party, the Congress has been fully cooperating with the state government to fight against COVID-19. The party leaders have given adequate advice to the government, but the government has considered it. Instead, the BJP leaders are busy fighting each other while vested interests among them are engaged in corruption. Though the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) led by chairman H K Patil expressed its willingness to conduct an inquiry into the corruption in the purchase of PPE kits and other items in the state, the Speaker has denied permission,” he alleged.

The KPCC has already demanded a special package of Rs 50,000 crore to solve the crisis in the state. Telangana and Kerala have announced special packages of Rs 30,000 crore and Rs 20,000 crore respectively. However, only Rs 2,500 crore package was announced by the Karnataka government, but it has still not been fully released. D K Shivakumar will take over as KPCC President on June 7. The event would be streamed live on social media platforms at all gram panchayat centres. Shivakumar has prepared a plan to strengthen the party at the booth-level. He had planned to unite the party workers across the state and then take over, he said.

District Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA U R Sabhapathi, leaders Manjunath Bhandary, G A Bava, MA Gafoor, Kallige Taranath Shetty and others were present.
